Life is filled with decisions that each come with their own pros and cons.  There are often a number of considerations to be made for each decision, and this definitely applies to design and decor.

  • What colour scheme do you prefer?
  • Will you incorporate different textures and patterns or keep it simple, solid colours?
  • Which print medium will work the best in the space that you have available?

If you have been involved in a decorating project in the past, then it is likely that you had to answer these questions and more.

We enjoy playing with colours and textures as much as any decor enthusiast, but what really gets us excited is the endless variety of print mediums that are available.

Our product range offers the perfect variety of canvas, wood and framed fine art photo paper.  There is something for everyone, and each item can be customized to suit your size and finish requirements.

There is an ongoing popularity contest between canvas and photo paper prints which we’d like to explore a little.

What’s The Difference?

Canvas Prints vs Photo Prints is a hot debate and you often find people will lean towards one more than the other.  There are pros and cons to both and it really comes down to personal preference when deciding which to use.

We’ve put together a few points for comparison which we hope will help you decide on the product for you.

Ability to Customize

Our stretch canvas prints can be fully customized, but there are some limitations on the framed photo prints.

  • Colour – You can select the image colour for both, choosing between full colour (true to your photo), black and white or sepia.
  • Size – There is no limitation on the sizes available, with the minimum being 150 mm x 150 mm and the maximum being 1200 mm x 2400 mm.  You can specify your exact measurement requirements to fit perfectly onto the wall space that you have available.
  • Edge finish – The wrap around edge of the stretched canvas can be customized by selecting a black, white, colour pick from the image, or an image wrap around.  This is where the framed photo print is slightly limited – you can only choose between a black or a white frame.

Versatility

All of the print mediums that we have on offer are extremely versatile, and would work brilliantly in a variety of settings.  Some work better than others in certain elements though, so the location of where you want your print to hang is definitely an important consideration.

For example:  Our acrylic (perspex) prints are perfect for any outdoor setting, purely because they can withstand the rain and wind, and be easily wiped clean.

The stretched canvas and framed photo prints work beautifully indoors and are both easy to install.  Canvas prints add texture and offer a modern way to showcase your photos.  There are many digital art images available and, when paired with the stretched canvas, they offer a modern art piece that is personalised and unique.  Framed photo prints are considered the traditional way of displaying photographs, and while beautiful, it can be the ‘safe’ option.

Canvas prints are sturdy and lightweight, and make excellent gifts because they travel well.  Pack a layer of clothes into the luggage case, place the canvas face down, and then cover the print with the balance of your clothing.  No glass means no shattered gift on the other side – unlike a framed photo print.

Cost comparison

Price is often a deciding factor when purchasing any items, especially if you have a lot to achieve on a strict budget.  We pride ourselves on staying affordable without compromising on quality.  Our stretched canvas prints are a gorgeous, cost effective way to display your images.  Our framed photo prints are competitively priced but do work out to be more expensive when comparing size for size.  You can have a look at our price list for standard sizes here, and we are able to quote you on any custom dimensions that you need.

A few other points to consider

We offer FREE nationwide delivery to central areas on all orders over R400 PLUS you can qualify for a 10% discount if your order is R500 or more.

Our team might be a little biased but when we asked them to name their favourite product, canvas prints won the majority vote.  Hopefully that helps you to decide between canvas prints vs photo prints.

All our love
