The Day marks the anniversary of the Assembly’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 on 10 December each year.
In South Africa however, Human Rights Day is commemorated annually on the 21st of March. This is to remind South Africans about the sacrifices that accompanied the struggle for the attainment of democracy in South Africa.
The South African Human Rights Commission is the national institution established to support constitutional democracy. It is committed to promoting respect for, observance of, and protection of human rights for everyone without fear or favour.
